Early Head Start
Early Head Start services are provided in three (3) Florida counties: Martin, Polk, and St. Lucie. The program provides services to infants and toddlers under age 3, and pregnant women. ALPI’s Early Head Start program provides intensive comprehensive child development and family support services to low-income children and families. The Early Head Start program is the product of bipartisan legislation signed into law by President Clinton in May 1994 with the reauthorization of the Head Start Act.
The program is designed to provide services that create an environment that builds upon and responds to the unique strengths and needs of each child and family, including: developmentally appropriate activities for infants and toddlers (both in and out of the home), home visits (especially for families with newborns and other infants), parent involvement (including parent-child activities), comprehensive developmental and health services (including services for women prior to, during and after pregnancy), nutrition, and ongoing support to parents through case management and peer support groups.
