Children & Family Services

In the early 70’s, The Agricultural and Labor Program (ALPI), Inc. made childcare services available to the children of migrant and seasonal workers when no other service providers were available to meet the childcare needs of these families. Since the late 70’s, ALPI continues to provide comprehensive quality childcare for children and families. ALPI serves as the Grantee Agency for Head Start in St. Lucie County and the Early Head Start in both St. Lucie County and Polk County.

In 2000, ALPI’s Early Head Start application was approved to serve 40 infants and pregnant mothers in St. Lucie County, today that number has increased to 140 infants, toddlers and pregnant mothers between St .Lucie and Polk County. In both counties, ALPI partners with the local Early Learning Coalitions to provide additional before and afterschool childcare services for working families. Today, ALPI is funded to serve a total of 831 children in its Head Start/Early Head Start Program.

All of ALPI directly operated Head Start/Early Head Start centers are state licensed and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) certified. Six of the seven directly operated centers are NAEYC accredited and have been recognized with the Gold Seal of Excellence from the Florida Department of Children and Families. Additionally, In St. Lucie County, ALPI has an afterschool Computer Assisted Tutorial Program (CAT) that provides tutoring and enrichment services for children 5 to 14 years of age.
